    Flo's Brain Grass Supplement

The fitness industry is a behemoth and it is growing with no signs of slowing down. Everyday there’s newer and crazier services that promise better results than everything that has been done before. Check out this underwater training. Or this new nutritional fad that can tell you exactly when to eat according to your circadian rhythm . Even classic old fads like the universal gym machine are coming back in its digital versions. For each macronutrient there is a corresponding diet, and a group of followers. For each type of movement a big believer and a naysayer. The internet does not seem big enough to hold all the new fitness out there.

    Study yourself

This story made me realize that when it comes to nutrition it’s not that we cannot see reality, it is that we have NO IDEA. We were never taught how to evaluate whether our eating habits are actually good or not. We have beliefs about nutrition, but we have no way to test those beliefs and, to be honest, most don’t even feel the need to test them. To make things worse, the internet is full of the next best shiny diet: ketogenic, veganism, vegetarianism, low carb, high carb, carnivore diet, paleo diet, whole 30, weight watchers, organic free-range home-schooled turduckens, etc. Combine genuine ignorance with media telling us that there is such a thing as Good Eating that is independent of our genetics, our socio-economic context, our cultural background, and our present state, that there exists a one-size-fits-all nutritional approach that will guarantee you results, and you are clusterfucked, my friend.

    Nutrition, Sex, and Priorities

Don’t get me wrong, you can still buy pre-made food, order food, whatever you like, just be intentional about it and don’t let convenience and value be your first priorities. Put nutritional value first and then pick the most convenient cheapest option you can find. Don’t let advertisement victimize you and save you at the same time. Gain control of your shit! Set your priorities right and find yourself a high-quality lover for lunch time.

    Eating in the car

My job as a fitness coach is to help people create the habits necessary to achieve their goals.  Most of the time those habits go very much against traditional cultural practices, sometimes they go against my trainee’s very identity. This means there can be a great deal of resistance involved in changing habits. When I ask people to eat veggies for breakfast they usually look at me as if I were completely insane.

    Banzo's sword and metric fixations

    Are you training your mindset?

Both of my athletes Francy and Henrick agree with me that mindset is important when it comes to athletic performance. This is unusual because they mostly think I am full of shit. Truth is most people know that what you think greatly determines how you perform at a given task. This is very intuitive and obvious on a superficial level. We all know that if you think you suck at running, well guess what? You are going to suck at running. What is really hard for most people is to flip it around and use this idea to their benefit. But in fact, the base of all sports psychology is exactly this: if you want to be good at something you have to believe that you can actually be good at that thing.
